Few people know there are also some easy ways to increase Return on Investment (ROI) in Retail. Even fewer have ever thought you can use them in office design just as easy.

Here are some great tips on how to really boost your RoI when you invest in new offices or in renovating the office you have:

Branding
We have seen too many offices with complete lack or a shocking inconsistency in Branding. It’s not about visitors. It’s about what should be your most valued target group, your people. Your office environment should absolutely reflect the positioning, differentiation and values of the company. Do it the right way and apart from boosting productivity it will ensure alignment and increase engagement.

Five Senses approach
What became a must in Retail, has a lot of relevant applications in Office design.
The idea is simple: engage all human senses. Take care of lighting levels and light temperature. Make sure there is enough ventilation and the air is lightly scented. Design textures and surfaces to also match the different uses of every area. Introduce music and carefully selected sounds in common areas. Demand that your office designers study the acoustics of your office area and last but not least offer some healthy and tasty snacks or bites to everyone.

Customer Experience
Your customers are your people working in the office. And their experiences should be meticulously designed to maximise your Office RoI. How they start and finish their day, where they pass from and how they flow inside the space, where they meet and share other experiences, all should be taken into account in office design.

Agility
There is a word everyone uses in business these days. How can office design take agility in account. Avoid designing rigid layouts that cannot change or transform. Create project areas that are used for different projects by different teams each time. Allow teams to create specific project environments in there for the period of the project. Create learning spaces, where teams present and share project success and lessons learned that form an temporary exhibition area. And so much more…

There are a lot more insights to share, all the way to the use of Gamification in office design, but for today we’ll stick to the four above. The most important thing, however, is to be open minded and forward thinking, so as to design for the years ahead. Our society changes rapidly, our markets too. Accepting and adapting to this change is a systemic way of living that cannot – should not – be restricted to the Retail environments if one is truly seeking to prosper sustainably.
